Our Favorite Plot Twist

People say timing is everything. Our story suggests timing matters, but apparently so do mutual friends, a little persistence, and saving someone’s phone number to send a Zelle payment.

We technically met in 2022 at our friends’ wedding. Josh was a groomsman, Robyn was single, and if we’re being completely honest, neither of us left that wedding thinking, “I just met my future spouse.” Actually, Josh remembered Robyn. Robyn… not so much.

After the reception, a group of us went out for drinks and, in true Josh fashion, he picked up the tab for everyone. Naturally, everyone protested and sent money back. Robyn saved Josh’s number to complete the transaction and thought absolutely nothing of it.

Fast forward two years.

We ran into each other at a networking event in Atlanta and had a quick conversation before heading our separate ways. Then Damon stepped in and gave Robyn a nudge: “I remember Josh being really great at the wedding. I think he’s single.” During the second half of the evening, we crossed paths again and started talking. Somewhere between standing in line for the movie premier and our friends encouraging us to sit together, something shifted.

There was just one problem: Robyn couldn’t remember Josh’s name.

While sitting directly beside him, she secretly texted Damon: “What’s his name again?” Damon replied: “I think it’s Josh.”

Strong start.

After Robyn gave Josh the green light, Josh took it from there. Our first date at Your 3rd Spot was supposed to last an hour or two and somehow turned into five.

Not long after, we took an 11-hour road trip to Pittsburgh that felt more like an hour. We talked for miles, listened to old-school jams, and learned that we genuinely enjoyed just being together. Josh met Robyn’s dad and brothers on that trip and survived the family introduction process with flying colors.

A few days later, the first ranunculus of the season from Robyn’s favorite local grower showed up at her door with a note: “Would you like to make this official? Yes or No?”

As our relationship grew, we realized our story wasn’t built around one giant movie moment. It was built around a lot of small ones.

For Robyn, it became clear during a difficult season when Josh cared for her after surgery with kindness, consistency, and the kind of support that makes you feel safe.

For Josh, it was never one specific moment. It was hours of conversation, how easy things felt together, and realizing that even when we disagree, we “fight nice” because we never stop being on the same side.

Now our days are filled with BeltLine walks, game nights, ridiculous reels, dishwasher-loading debates, and reminding each other that we’re “Player 1 and Player 2.”

Somewhere between the big moments and the ordinary ones, we found our person — and our teammate.
